Todd Burke is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office focusing on complex commercial litigation and risk management. He is a past leader of the Commercial Litigation National Practice Group and continues to lead the Commercial Litigation Group in the Ottawa office. 

Since being called to the Bar in 1992, Todd has handled a variety of complex matters in the aviation, banking, construction, technology, real estate and manufacturing sectors. This is in addition to his work in resolving business disputes either in the Courts or through arbitration in Canada or internationally. Included in the complex disputes that Todd has handled are cases involving breach of confidence, trade libel, economic torts, contractual disputes, and product liability matters. He also advises clients on class actions and crisis management. 

Todd recognizes the need for a practical and efficient approach to commercial disputes.  This may come by way of alternative dispute resolution, the use of interlocutory remedies or effective trial practice.  The approach employed also makes use of e-discovery best practices, as developed by Sedona Canada, a group with which Todd has been very involved.

Beginning in 2010, Todd has been leader of the Firm’s United States Initiative.  He is a member of the Firm’s External Management Committee as well as Gowlings’ International Management Committee.
