Val Cottrill is a partner in Gowlings' Waterloo Region office and a member of its Technology Law Group. He practises in the area of intellectual property, and is primarily engaged in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.

A professional engineer, Val is registered to practise as a patent agent before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
