William Vanveen is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office, practising in the areas of competition law and civil litigation, including class actions. His competition law experience covers all aspects including civil and criminal litigation, class actions, investigations, compliance and strategic opinions, and merger review.
Prior to joining the Firm as a partner in 1989, William spent four years as an assistant professor of Law at the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law.
William is an advocate in the Ontario Superior Court, Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Provincial Court and the Competition Tribunal and has also handled matters in other provinces.
William has acted in numerous competition law related civil proceedings. He has acted for Coca-Cola, Hoffmann-La Roche Limited, Eli Lilly, Pfizer and other pharmaceutical clients, and has particular expertise in the area of competition law related to the pharmaceutical industry.
He has also handled several class action lawsuits on a national scale in Canada, including the citric acid matter, vitamins and linerboard.
William was a sessional lecturer on Competition Law at Queen's University and has written and spoken on competition law subjects. He has also co-authored the leading loose leaf service entitled Competition Law Service as well as book chapters on competition law.
