Bill C-45: From Boardrooms to Courtrooms

The Bill C-45 amendments to the Criminal Code establish a legal duty for organizations and their decision makers to ensure that "reasonable steps" are taken to prevent bodily harm and injury in the workplace. Failure to comply with this new duty may result in both individuals and organizations being prosecuted for OHS criminal negligence, with penalties in the millions of dollars for organizations. The maximum jail term an individual could face upon conviction is life imprisonment.

Our half-day seminar will educate your organization on the new legal duty and indicate what steps you and your organization can take to avoid criminal liability.

Norm Keith, B.A., LL.B., CRSP, a leading employment and labour lawyer and author of Canadian Health & Safety Law, will assist directors, officers and senior managers in understanding their new legal obligations under the Criminal Code. Lexpert has rated Norm the most frequently referred lawyer for OHS legal matters.
