Workplace supervision is essential for the protection of
workers. Managers and supervisors also play a key role in
implementing the employer's OHS program.
This course, designed by Norm Keith, B.A., LL.B., CRSP, a
leading employment and labour lawyer and author of Canadian
Health & Safety Law, will provide an introduction to managers
and supervisors to OHS legislation and the OHS system
required to achieve due diligence.
The course focuses on:
- Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
- Duties and responsibilities of workplace parties
- Workers' OHS rights to know, participate and refuse
- Authority and powers of occupational health and safety regulator
- Legal liability, penalties and fines
- The Internal Responsibility System explained
- Overview of OHS systems and integration of managerial/supervisory functions
- Due diligence, its legal meaning and practical application
- Bill C-45 and the offence of OHS criminal negligence under the Criminal Code
- Review of leading court decisions
- Exercise: Mock trial role play, or case law comparison with Due Diligence checklist developed by Norm Keith
